ISN PROGRAM AT APSA 2023 is August 31 – September 3, 2023 in Los Angeles, California. The conference theme is "Rights and Responsibilities in an Age of Mis- and Disinformation." The Indigenous Studies Network (ISN) hopes to put on one or more panels and a business meeting.
The Indigenous Studies Network seeks proposals that address the adaptability and resilience of Indigenous people, organizations, and governments in the US and around the world. We are especially interested in the politics and activism of Indigenous actors as they pursue political encounters on their own terms. Indigenous contributions that are both proactive and reactive are encouraged. This includes proposals that add to our understanding of complex governance structures and power dynamics, including the social, economic, cultural and political context of Indigenous actors.

We have four openings for work with Indigenous populations (in the US and US territories), at different levels. Please share widely (send to your listservs) with graduates from undergrad, master’s programs, and PhD programs and others who work with Indigenous populations in research. If hired, you will be working with Dr. Heather Sauyaq Jean Gordonand Dr. Deana Around Him who work with Indigenous Peoples on issues important to them as well as staff who specialize in many additional topic areas. Dr. Gordon was just recognized as a cohort 11 scholar in the Native Children’s Research Exchange (NCRE) scholars program. Dr. Around Him was just recognized as a 2022 Ascend Fellow at the Aspen Institute. I am happy to answer any questions prospective applicants may have ( [email protected]).
Past projects include a Twitter Analysis Can Help Practitioners, Policymakers, and Researchers Better Understand Topics Relevant to American Indian/Alaska Native Youth. Current projects look at school safety for Indigenous youth; Positive Indian Parenting; Maternal, Infant, and Early Childhood Home Visiting (MIECHV) programs in addressing health equity during the COVID-19 pandemic; and providing local evaluation support (Training & Technical Assistance) to Personal Responsibility Education Programs (PREP) in Tribal communities. Future projects either in the pipeline or work we hope you join us to work in include work on the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Relatives crisis, culture as a protective factor, language revitalization as a protective factor, work around climate change, work around Indigenous subsistence practices, work with minority serving institutions, addressing colonization and historical trauma, addressing urban healthcare needs, boarding school trauma, youth in science, technology, engineering, math, social science, economics, and art, to name a few. Additionally, we were awarded Doris Duke funds and Mackenzie Scott funds to pursue our impact plan with Black American and Indigenous populations which involves advancing our work with Indigenous children and families.

Authors Sought for Book on Traditional Ecological Knowledge

My name is Lara Jacobs and I’m a Citizen of Muscogee (Creek) Nation and in the last year of my Ph.D. program at Oregon State University. I’m currently in the process of putting together an edited volume that focuses on Traditional Ecological Knowledge and three Indigenous value systems. The book is edited, peer-reviewed, and written solely by Indigenous Peoples, and will most likely be published in 2024.
I am searching for a few more Indigenous contributors for the volume, specifically those who write short stories, songs, and poetry. I’d be happy to provide more information about the collection to those who are interested in potentially contributing.

Position Summary:
The School of Politics, Philosophy and Public Affairs (PPPA) at Washington State University invites applications for a permanent, full-time, nine-month, tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Pullman, WA, with a specialty in Native American/Indigenous Law and Policy. We seek applicants who conduct research related to tribal sovereignty broadly, using the lens of the law and public policy. Research might address how attitudes about Indigenous Peoples inform and infuence law and policies that affect Indigenous and Native American nations, the social and political consequences of tensions between Native legal institutions and state and federal courts, or how an understanding of the law might help address the inequities that exist in Native American and other Indigenous communities.

Proven or potential for successful teaching and instruction
Demonstrated commitment to campus diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts Significant engagement with the communities involved in their research
Preferred Qualifications:
Ability to teach courses such as Judicial Process, Civil Liberties and U.S. Constitution Demonstrated ability to work collegially and collaboratively with internal and external constituencies that represent diverse cultures, backgrounds, and ideologies.

2023 Air Quality Internship
Apply for a paid 8-week summer internship.
Spend your summer working with tribal organizations to address tribal environmental issues. The internships have a research,technical, educational or policy focus. We are offering at least 8 positions in air quality. You can apply for up to 8 positions with one application. The internship program provides each student intern with a $5,120 stipend. We also have travel and housing stipends for those that relocate for the internship. Host sites are selected from tribal environmental organizations, government offices, the US Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) and others.
